Recently, I've been thinking about building products or creating content to help founders with fundraising. To figure out whether there was a real opportunity here, I had to go back to basics and validate the idea from scratch.
So far over the last 2 weeks, I did 37 interviews with my business partner to learn more from founders about the fundraising process. With just two tweets, we received over 75 emails from founders which demonstrates just how painful the process is currently. We walked away from those interviews having learned a ton about the pattern of pain common among founders during fundraising.
One of the most-read articles on my blog is a piece I wrote back in 2013 for Ryan Hoover's Startup Edition on creating products that people love by validating the idea first. This week, I updated the article with what I've learned over the past 2 years along with a video that my friends at LessFilms made that does a great job of summarizing the validation process.
