Turn your ideas into assumptions before you act on them

When you've got an idea, design or potential solution in mind for your customers don't just go build it. Without actual data or evidence that it's the right thing, it's just an uneducated guess. First, think about why you believe it's a good solution. That'll reveal the assumptions you are making. Take those assumptions and use customer development to learn whether you are right or wrong. It'll prevent you from wasting your time and resources on building things that don't matter.
