This tip was inspired by an article my co-founder Neil wrote about how to triple email conversion rates. In the article he gets to the truth about pop-ups:
Pop-ups are an amazing way to increase your email sign-up rate, but they can also easily piss off your visitors if you’re not careful. When implemented correctly, pop-ups aren’t annoying enough to scare away interested readers. They may scare away people who didn’t really want to read anyway, but that’s not a big loss.
It's normal to be negative about something you haven't tried yourself because you don't like it. It's true that most of the ways that people use pop-ups are annoying. This shouldn't stop you from trying them. Especially when it's a tactic such as pop-ups that actually works quite effectively. Just because other people implemented the tactic in an annoying way doesn't mean you need to do it the same way. The next time a tactic turns you off, test it for yourself! You might be suprised by the results.
